Sustainability discourse has now become mandatory for every sector. Sustainable production is becoming a way of life, not a trend. The world is changing. Due to the global pandemic, manufacturers and leading brands are trying to adapt themselves to produce more sustainably.

The textile industry is known to be responsible for 20% of global water pollution. The CO2 emissions of the textile industry are equivalent to those of the aviation industry. This makes the textile sector the second sector to pollute the world after the oil industry.

Reducing our carbon footprint is the most fundamental factor in combating global warming. The carbon emissions which occur as a result of our activities result in a greenhouse effect in our atmosphere and cause serious damage to the environment.

As Merkoteks; we act with a vision that tries to be a pioneer and an example to the society in all areas we support, and are making progress by contributing to the national economy and employment with our investments.

Although the first thing that comes to mind when talking about sustainability is the protection of the environment, the concept of sustainability is actually a holistic approach that includes ecological, economic and social dimensions.

In order to further reduce our Cardon footprint, we replaced our fleet of vehicles used in our transportation stages with electric vehicles. We want to leave a cleaner world for future generations. We promise to make investments to realize this goal.

Environment Management REDUCE

In our activities, we comply with all legal regulations and standards related to the environment, and we pay attention to protect the environment and natural life beyond the legal requirements. In our production processes; The resulting wastewater is treated in accordance with the legal procedure.

Environmental Management; We have Higg FEM and FSLM platform.

We are registered on the Higg INDEX platform. Our Higg ID number is 49121. We purchased the FEM (environmental) and FSLM (social) modules. We have a varification audits.

Malatya Factory Higg Id number is 151290. We filled the FSLM (social) module. And We have a varification audit.

  • Our "higg fem" score is (Istanbul 2021)
  • Our "higg fslm" score is (Istanbul 2021)
  • Our "Higg fslm" score is (Malatya 2021)

Air Emissions & Quality Management RECYCLE

Air Emissions Management; We have emission measurement and the carbon footprint report.
  • We have emission measurement report.
  • We are planning to join the SBTi (Science Based Targets initiative) platform in the near future.
  • The carbon footprint scope 3 report was prepared by a 3rd party organization in accordance with ISO 14064
  • Because we use natural gas, our carbon footprint ise low.

Quality management; We have a quality standarts.
  • We have ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 and 27001 certificates.
  • We also planned get OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certificate.

Chemicals & Raw Materials CHEMICALS

We manage our chemical stocks within the scope of the ‘Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals’ legislation and we create a safe and healthy working environment. By reducing the use of environmentally hazardous substances, we take advantage of the technological developments that can take place, and by educating our employees about appropriate transportation techniques, we prevent possible injuries and diseases.

Chemical Management: We have ZDHC Gateway platform.
  • We are registered on the ZDHC Gateway platform. Our ZDHC AID number is A611JX41.
  • We use eco-friendly chemicals and dyestuffs. This chemicals and dyestuffs compliance to REACH, SVHC, ZDHC M/RSL, GOTS, GRS.
  • It is planned to build a chemical automation system in our Çerkezköy factory.

Wastewater Management WATER

We have wastewater test report. Recycling water is used.
  • The purification device that recycles the water has been commissioned, and the treated water is reused in our operating processes.
  • We are make wastewater test every 6 months.
  • We are also registered on the IPE platform. We publish test results on the IPE platform.
  • We will be moved our dyeing/washing process to a new self-owned factory at the end of this year. The construction still goes on in Çerkezköy location. In this factory, the treated water will reused in our operational processes.
Raw Material Management: We have organic and recycle fabric sertifications.
  • Organic (BCI (ID Number 1006322-1), GOTS, OCS) and re-cycle (GRS, RCS) certified productions are made in our facility. (OCS, RCS, GOTS and GRS Id Number CU 851384)

We have wind power plant.
  • We have a wind power plant for renewable energy in Çerkezköy Factory. Its capacity is 6 million kwh/year. This means that it supply more from our need.
  • We are plannig to have solar energy future years in Çerkezköy Factory.
  • In the normal part dyeing process, 15 lt of water is used for 1 kg of product at the ratio of antique dye flotte (water). We paint 1kg of product with 4lt with the advantage of the machine park. When the flotte (water consumption) decreases, up to 40% savings are achieved in energy consumption.
  • In addition, As MERKOTEKS, we are planning to install the Wind Tribune WPP in accordance with the legislation. The project will have a power of 2500 KWH and a capacity to produce approximately 8,000,000 KWH of energy per year. Our negotiations with the relevant official authorities continue. The project is unlicensed electricity generation and will be realized in the form of production based on self-consumption

Carbon footprint measurements are a very effective method for businesses to differentiate their products in the marketplace and part of their corporate responsibility (CSR) strategy.

That’s why it’s increasingly important to assess emissions and mitigate them using methodologies like the lifecycle analysis or guidelines from the ISO 14067:2018.

Reducing our carbon footprint is the most fundamental factor in combating global warming. The carbon emissions which occur as a result of our activities result in a greenhouse effect in our atmosphere and cause serious damage to the environment.

As it can be understood, reducing our carbon footprint is the most basic element of combating many important problems such as deterioration of ecological balance, climate change, melting of glaciers and greenhouse effect. In order to leave a more livable world to future generations, we must reduce our carbon footprint.

Using the EIM score, it is possible to make sustainability measurable within the manufacturing process. The EIM score assesses the environmental influences that come into effect in industrial washing. The assessment considers the categories of water, energy and chemicals. The effects are clearly categorised in green, orange and red. During the assessment, employee’s occupational health & safety conditions also contribute to the score.

This is exactly where we started. The EIM score provides a valid and comparable evaluation system. Our goal is that our pants would be awarded the green, and therefore the best, EIM score. To this end, we are further developing our manufacturing procedure and reducing the consumption of water, energy and chemicals, while also adhering to strict social and environmental standards. Already today, the majority of our pants achieve the green EIM score - a success that we are constantly expanding.

If there is no measurement, there is no improvement

EIM measures environmental impact in four different categories: Water and energy needs, chemical impact, and worker impact. Based on a recipe description, the software works in 3 steps:
